What Will Remain? Predicting the Representation in Protected Areas of Suitable Habitat for Endangered Tropical Avifauna in Borneo under a Combined Climate- and Land-Use Change Scenario

چکیده
The responses of threatened tropical avian species to projected climate change and land-use are important for evaluating the ability existing protected areas provide habitat these under future scenarios in biodiversity hotspots. This study uses Maxent, a distribution model that employs maximum entropy machine learning approach map spatial distributions habitats suitable International Union Conservation Nature birds present Borneo. We find very low coverage bird species’ (95%CI = 9.3–15.4%). Analysis suitability projections 18 suggests 2050, Special Report on Emissions Scenarios A1B B1, with currently little may gain area but lose proportion this is protected. Large-ranged likely will inflate remaining areas. availability was most determinant both scenarios. Threat level, as measured by preferences considered here, Lowland or Lowland–Montane, poor predictors amount contraction expansion undergone species.

Identifying appropriate protected areas for endangered fern species under climate change
The management of protected areas (PAs) is widely used in the conservation of endangered plant species under climate change. However, studies that have identified appropriate PAs for endangered fern species are rare. To address this gap, we must develop a workflow to plan appropriate PAs for endangered fern species that will be further impacted by climate change. Here, we used endangered fern s...

In order to assess the effects of climate change in temperate rainforest plants in southern South America in terms of habitat size, representation in protected areas, considering also if the expected impacts are similar for dominant trees and understory plant species, we used niche modeling constrained by species migration on 118 plant species, considering two groups of dominant trees and two g...

The implementation of adaptation actions in local conservation management is a new and complex task with multiple facets, influenced by factors differing from site to site. A transdisciplinary perspective is therefore required to identify and implement effective solutions. To address this, the International Conference on Managing Protected Areas under Climate Change brought together internation...
